This was, I think, my first attempt at making a house number sign using VCarvePro.
It is OK, but it was completed with multi-pass at increasing depth and shows some ‘steps’ which is probably due to backlash in my Z axis. My neighbour is pleased with it anyway. smile

I am waiting for Ya-Nvr-No to post some of his excellent signs and work here.

I made this relief a couple of years ago from a free depth map image available on the Majosoft website. http://majosoft.com/engravi....res.php
It is perhaps not quite up to the high standards of work shown elsewhere on this website but I am still very pleased with the result. The wood is Teak and I used a 3mm ball nose cutter with a 1mm stepover.

Thanks guys, you are most kind.

Sorry, I made a mistake with the stepover - the image was scaled to 1/4 size so the actual stepover was only 0.25mm shy

tweakie, good job! Teak seems nice, has friendly colors.
We are hobbysts with a freedom of standardness, so notning else is important, just to be nice to our eyes. ok

Hi Amator,

I am sorry, I should have explained - it is the name for a boat and the finished plaque will be varnished and fitted to the transom.

Hi Guys,

A couple of friends of mine work for a local boat builders and I made these name plates for them to fit on their tool boxes. The wood is only MDF but I have wiped it over with some dark stain to give it a bit of colour then matt varnished over.

Wood working is not one of my skills so anything I manage to make with wood is a real achievement for me. biggrin

tweakie, Your friends are lucky.
If You don't mention I'd never figure out that it's made into MDF. Nice job!

Thanks Amator, you are too kind.

This is work in progress and my first attempt from one of the relief downloads.
I started it a 6am this morning and it will, I think, still be running at bed time. The finishing pass may have to wait until next weekend. biggrin

tweakie, give some parameters, size, feedrate, etc, please!
On Your picture the workpiece doesn't semm so big that working progress would take so long time.

Another thing: when a relief is finished it used to get some finishing stain to highlight the shape.
What do You think to do the same with laser? I mean, it's easy to create a b/w picture from heights, where deep
places are black, high ones are white. I don't know that anybody did it before, just an idea.

Hi Amator,

The work is only 100mm x 150mm but I selected the wrong tool number when the roughing code was created so I ended up with a 0.25mm stepover thus the extra long time to complete. angry

Interesting idea about using the laser for shade toning, I am sure this is quite possible so I will give this some more thought.

Thanks to Zasti for the ‘heads-up’ on this one http://hobbycncart.com/forum/30-35-6808-16-1332785979 - a new, free, engraving program which supports ‘V Carving’ http://home.comcast.net/~sskroch/Fengrave/fengrave.html

The program works just fine with WinXP and the GCode produced is excellent using Mach3.
This is just a test sample, to try it out, which, I think, shows that it can produce results to match the commercial VCarve programs.
