I have posted a short video to YouTube of my Shapeoko2 engraving an image with a M140 laser diode.  The gcode is being sent to the Arduino and GRBL 9e with PicSender, a gcode streaming program I am working on.  The gcode was generated with PicLaser Lite.  The image took 98 minutes to engrave at 40ipm.

Thank you kind sir.

I believe that with a good, reliable sender (none that are now available will reliably stream fast gcode for large images), more Arduino cnc users may begin using laser diodes, and we may see new developments and improvements, although it is hard to see how any will ever best Jeff.  The fantastic success of the LazerBlade Kickstarter project (and competing machines) is the basis of my belief.

With PicSender, there should be no need to modify standard release GRBL (those later than version 8c) to laser diode engrave images in gray scale.

Congratulations John,

That is impressive and inspiring. Your video and comments motivated me to fire up the servo machine and char some wood. 130IPM, 40% FRC, 45 Left and at half power on Birch Ply.

Thanks Tweakie.  Considering the cost of cnc entry with GRBL vs. Mach3, the next couple of years should be fun to watch developments.

Hi guys,

I'm working on a new RGB laser engraver project, you can follow it it on the PicEngrave forums if you are interested.
http://www.picengrave.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=90

I am currently working out which lasers I need and have compiled a list:
- Crystalaser BCL-050-405
http://www.crystalaser.com/Blue375-405-444.pdf

- 520nm Osram PL520
http://www.osram-os.com/Graphics/XPic2/ ... %20520.pdf

- Crystalaser DL638-050
http://www.crystalaser.com/DL635-785.pdf

John, do you have the schematics for the MAX DAC? I am completely new to this, total noobie so I'll need all the help I can get.
TYA

Caleb

Amateur Hi,
I'm still around. I have been busy mostly with software programming, and some personal issues the past few months. Caleb has already connected with Jeff and me on our web site. Hope you are well. All the best, John
