Jeff and John
I received my FlexMod P3  and started to try and figure it out. It comes with a some options I am not sure about. Disable soft start safety delay?, Standby LED Beam suppression?  Do I need to disable these or should they remain in operation?
In the final connection page of the manual it is referring to connection to the load  line not to be longer than 3 feet??? I am not sure what this means. Does this mean that the FlexMod unit should be mounted on the Y axis rail? My table is 5 feet long.
On the Lasorb there are two pins: LDA and LDK listed in the manual but on the Lasorb the terminals are listed (A and 11091). I would guess (A) = (LDA). Is that what you guessed?
I built my DAC today and added Johns modification in to it, I have left to get my pots. But it's wired and ready for them, hope it will work.
Do all three pots need to be accessible for adjusting. Or once it is adjusted do I only need one exposed For increasing and decreasing the laser power???
Thanks
Jerry

Jerry,
Looking good.  I'll have to let Jeff answer Flexmod questions, mine just arrived yesterday and is not yet installed.

I have all three of my adjustments exposed because the adjustments can change with time and temperature, and sometimes it is necessary to change them quite a bit for different materials.  The one on Dave's DAC should be set to give a 5 v output.  The ones on my add-on are set for the minimum needed to just start the diode to lase (bias), and the other is set for the maximum current you want to use for the material you are engraving.  Be sure to not exceed the maximum specified for your diode (probably 1.6 to 1.8 amps).

John

I think I have my wiring figured out for my FlexMod P3 but I don't understand a couple of things. What is there a 7 second start up delay for ??? I can disable it but why is it there? This is duel system C02 and Diode, can I use the one door open switch on the interlock for both ( one switch for both ) or should I isolate it, or add another switch for the door?

I am getting it figured out but I not even to the hard stuff yet.
Thanks Jerry

I think the startup delay allows time for the power supply to stabilize before turning on the diode at a below-threshold level. The flexmod uses the 0-5 volt analog signal input line to control the laser's power level when running (0 volts = off, 2.5v = 50% power, 5v = 100%). I'd use a second switch or a double pole relay driven by the interlock switch in order to keep the two isolated from each other. A clear plastic door won't do much to block the diode's blue beam tho.

Thanks for the help. My cover is 1/4 inch plate glass, Do you know of a plastic film that can be applied to make it 445nm proof? ( did I say that right)
Thanks Jerry

It would be a deep red color to block the diode's blue light, but a pair of 445nm laser goggles might be cheaper. The ones I used fit nicely over my beer goggles too. wink

Hello there,

I would like to ask your help. I'm planning to build a 1W 445nm laser engraver. Could you suggest me where to buy the diode and the driver? (Reliable and inexpensive one if possible)

Is this diode OK maybe? http://www.ebay.com/itm....e9b1fa5

Thanks!

Peter

This is the laser diode & driver I recommend for doing laser engraving. I also recommend using the Lasorb.

Jeff,

Thank you very much! Could you please tell me how can I order the FlexModP3 driver from the site you suggested? I am familiar with Ebay, but not with this FlexMod site. I would like to order from Hungary, Europe and if possible pay with PayPal.

Peter

Hi Peter,

That web site uses Google Wallet by just using a Credit Card. Here is his new web site that excepts Paypal, but I don't see where he has added the Lasorb to that site yet.

Jeff,

What should I choose at P3 Options?

Thanks.

Peter,

I'm not sure about those options as I never set one of these drivers up. Doug posted a couple of links in post 270 in this thread http://hobbycncart.com/forum/63-236-14 that may be helpful in answering your question. Or download the manual from the web site or you can use the Contact Us on the web site and ask the seller.

Jeff
