That is just absolutely brilliant John.
Thank you for sharing this great idea with us all.

Thank you very much, Tweakie.

I appreciate the compliment. It will be interesting to see how others use and improve on it.

John

John, that's cool!
I was sometimes in the same trouble with mirror engraving. I was thinking about how to backlight them to give a better look.
Really genuine idea, thank You for sharing!
If You can obtain broken TFT monitor You'll find a prism-like light distributor plexiglass behind the display. I think it's to be worth to try, maybe a useable thing and easy to cut.

Thank you, Amator.

Here's a little trick I use when engraving Plexiglass.

Whether cast or extruded, all Plexiglass can melt and stick to high speed engraving bits. I have ruined a lot of work pieces because of this. A little trick I now use is to lightly coat the surface of the Plexiglass with Vaseline (petroleum jelly) before engraving. Works well when the spindle speed can not be reduced to low RPMs. It doesn't take much Vaseline, and I use liquid hand soap and water to remove the Vaseline afterwards.

John Champlain

Hi

Low RPM and blowing to the workpiece the air is not sufficient ?

Bela,

It probably would be, but, unfortunately, my spindle's slowest speed is about 13K rpm. I am considering installing a Super PID speed controller, then maybe Vaseline will not be needed.

Regards,
John

Peter and Group,

I have finally released PicDither. For more infomation please check my web site - www.picengrave.com (scroll to page bottom).

Peter, there are some minor changes to the version you have, so you may want to download it and install over your present copy. The registration should not change.

Please note that the output from PicDither will not load directly into DotG without converting to a 1-bit format like Tweakie does using InfanView or another similar program.

Thank You,
John Champlain
